I listened to a very interesting Jeremy Bowen last weekend, and stumbling over him outside the venue before the event (and making some crass remark about not recognising him without his moustache). Yesterday, somewhat surprisingly given that he was interviewing David Petreus in Baghdad only last Monday, I was particularly happy to listen to John Simpson give a wide ranging talk and make some interesting observations about The War, the universe and everything.
Much more relaxed and affable than some observers dare to suggest, I found him delightful to talk to - albeit briefly. The blurry image either once again reflects the quality of my phonecam or maybe the degree to which my hand was shaking.

No matter...seems that we are friends so I needn't have worried! Thank you John. Without wishing to embarrass you, I should note that you've been a hero of mine for many years and it was a genuine pleasure to meet you at last and to shake your hand. You do what you do with professionalism, grit, courage and determination...I thank you.
